Timorese Chinese Association of NSW

17 October 2024

I congratulate the twenty-third executive committee of the Timor Chinese Association of NSW on its recent inauguration and especially the new president of the association, Mr William K. Leong. The priority of the incoming committee is to strengthen the organisation so that it can continue to provide valuable connection to culture and identity, particularly for the younger generations. I was joined by the Vice-Consul of Timor-Leste in Sydney, Mrs Nidia De Castro Andrade, and my colleagues the member for Cabramatta and the member for Fowler, as well as representatives from many other community organisations. We were all treated to a wonderful evening of food, entertainment and good company. I even learnt a traditional Timorese dance. I acknowledge the service of the outgoing and honorary president, Mr Tony Von. He was president of the association for the first time in 1999—25 years ago. Although he looks forward to less stress, he will still have a big responsibility in providing mentorship and guidance to the new committee and president. I extend my appreciation to the outgoing members of the committee and wish them well.
