Starry Sari Nights Festival

19 September 2024

The coming of springtime in the first weekend of September saw George Street in Liverpool transform into Sari Street for the Starry Sari Nights festival. A tribute to Liverpool's large South Asian community, the festival returned to its home on George Street this year to mark the official inauguration of the street as Liverpool's Little India. The weekend engaged the whole family, with South Asian cuisine, dance, music and culture taking centre stage. It also featured a fashion show! Special props to Liverpool Public School's senior dance group for its fabulous performance. I was particularly proud to see this event succeed. The State Government contributed $150,000 towards activating George Street as part of the Minns Labor Government's commitment to vibrancy and the 24-hour economy. I congratulate the hardworking business owners on George Street who have come together to form Liverpool Little India in a quest to elevate Liverpool's status as an important cultural hub. I also congratulate the hardworking staff of Liverpool City Council's events team. Their work often goes unacknowledged, but I recognise them all in this place today.
