Today is the auspicious day of Kaveri Sankramana when the people of the Kodagu region celebrate the birth of the sacred Kaveri River, whose timeless flow has symbolised life, nourishment, strength and prosperity. The river has shaped the history and culture of the region for generations, just as the Georges River has shaped the history and culture of Liverpool. For all Kodavas, the river Kaveri is more than a life giver; she is revered as both a goddess and the protector of people. Kaveri Sankramana is a cherished festival for all Kodavas, reminding us of the sacred bond we share with nature. It is a time for devotees to perform rituals, to pay homage to the river and to take sacred baths in her waters. The festival signifies the renewal of life and the beginning of the harvest season. It brings people together in prayers, cultural activities and community gatherings. As we honour the abundant river, I extend my heartfelt wishes to all Kodavas for a blessed Kaveri Sankramana. May the land and also the spirit of our community be nourished as we strive for prosperity and harmony for generations to come.
